The Evolution of Blessed to be a Blessing

There was a brilliant moment when I stumbled across a drama that used umbrellas as props. This was a fabulous way to continue to support our church theme with the umbrellas we had created with our Artist in Residence, Anita VanZeumeren. The drama is called “What Name Is Given in Bethlehem? A Christmas Drama” and written by  Sonya VanderVeen Feddema. I found it in the September 2014 issue of Reformed Worship, one of my favourite worship resources.

We adapted the drama for our congregation and pulled umbrellas from our art installation in the following colours, each one symbolizing an important aspect.

    • Red—the blood of Christ (salvation)
    • Green—green pastures (protection)
    • Blue—the heavens/the height of God’s love
    • Yellow—the glory of God
    • Black—evil (the black umbrella needs a hooked handle)
